Rally launched
A short while ago opposition leaders headed by Levon Ter-Petrosyan, Stepan Demirchyan and Aram Sargsyan came up on stage and following them were police officers Valeri Osipyan and Robert Melkonyan.
Deputy Chief of Police of Yerevan Aghasi Kirakosyan addressed citizens and said that the rally is permitted and that the police will not create problems for the participants, but the march is banned. However, taking into consideration the fact that today is a holiday, rally participants may hold the march as long as they don't violate social order and traffic.
Davit Shahnazaryan responded to this by declaring that the police were violating the order and not them. Levon Zurabyan tried to inform police officers that he had seen some suspicious people standing near the Chamber theatre and Matenadaran and he is truly convinced that they were provokers. The police did not respond to that. Zurabyan even went after them, but they didn't answer him. Later, Zurabyan told journalists that the police don't want and don't try to cooperate with them to hold a normal rally.
Let us mention that today there will be speeches made by Davit Shahnazaryan, Levon Zurabyan, Stepan Demirchyan, Aram Sargsyan and Levon Ter-Petrosyan.
The rally is in progress as we speak and it is headed by Ararat Zurabyan. Our correspondent reports that Zurabyan congratulated the participants on Labor Day stating that although many of the participants are unemployed, next time they will celebrate this holiday as workers.
"Our death is victory. Fourteen months have passed since the March 1 deadly clashes organized by the authorities, but the authorities were not able to conceal the crimes thanks to the people."
He drew everyone's attention to the first report on the fact-finding group, which was aimed at the National Assembly. According to the report, soldier Hamlet Tadevosyan died from the explosion of a grenade in his hand on March 1. But the authorities were trying to speculate the murder with other formulations and the fact-finding group has demanded another investigation.
Davit Shahnazaryan believes that the fact-finding group is doing the right thing by stating that all investigators who have falsified must be brought to justice. He also touched upon the statement made by Hayk Harutyunyan yesterday and called it a confession. He also said that Hayk Harutyunyan and Robert Kocharyan will face the Haaga international court.
After a long round of applause, RA First President Levon Ter-Petrosyan began his speech by congratulating rally participants on the May 1 celebration. Ter-Petrosyan is currently making his speech composed of four sections, including worsening of the social-economic situation, failure of the "Case of Seven", deepening of Turkish-Armenian relations and the Yerevan city council elections.
