1.5 million prayers, 1.5 million flowers

On April 24 Armenians throughout the world mark the 94th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The 1915 massacres against the Armenians found their right interpretation- Genocide- in the realms of international right many years later. The Armenian Genocide was one of the tragic pages of the humanity.

1.5 million Armenians living in Western Armenia were killed by the Ottoman Empire. Some 800 000 Armenians were able to migrate to other countries leaving their homes and Motherland behind. They found an asylum in Eastern Armenia and in all corners of the world.

Soon the Armenian Diaspora was formed which aims to make the world recognize the historical fact-Armenian Genocide. The recognition of the Genocide is also a core issue of Armenia's foreign policy.

Today hundreds of thousands of people from Armenian marzes, Diaspora, abroad, lay wreaths at the memorial complex of the Armenian Genocide (Tsitsernakaberd) and respect the memory of the innocent victims of the 1915 Genocide.

Today 1.5 million flowers will be laid at the Eternal Flame perpetuating the memory of the 1.5 million victims. 1.5 million prayers will be said and 1.5 million candles will be lit for the rest of their souls.

People's march to Tsitsernakaberd was stopped at 11 o'clock as Armenia's top brass was visiting the memorial to pay homage to the victims. The same officials at the head of Serzh Sargsyan, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan and President of the Constitutional Court Gagik Harutyunyan, signed an agreement with Turkey on the normalization of bilateral relations two days ago. Today they stood at the Eternal Flame with their heads lowered listening to the prayer of Catholicos of All Armenians, His Holiness Karekin II

The Armenian Genocide has already been recognized by many countries, among them Russia, France, a number of European countries, many states of the USA, etc.
