One candle left
Today is Good Thursday and it symbolizes the last supper of Jesus Christ. His Holiness Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II will conduct a Washing of the Feet Service in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.
After the last supper Jesus poured the water into his thigh, bowed in front of his apostles and set an example of obedience by washing their feet.
After the foot washing ceremony, followers of the faith will be blessed with oil.
The Betrayal Service will take place after the Divine Liturgy. During the service, twelve candles are lit in the altar and one big candle is placed in the center. The candles are put out one by one each time the Bible is read and the one in the center is left at the end. The last candle symbolizes Christ, who was left alone.
The Armenian Apostolic Church celebrates Easter-Resurrection of Jesus Christ-on April 12 this year.
