Politics

As press speaker for the "Heritage" faction Hovsep Khurshudyan informed, in yesterday's session of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, member of the Armenian delegation to PACE, deputy of the "Heritage" faction Raffi Hovhannisyan strictly criticized the completion of demands stated in Resolution 1643 and the attitude of Europeans of not following-up on the completion of requirements that they set.

During a telephone conversation Head of the Armenian delegation to PACE David Harutyunyan told journalists that the Monitoring Committee praised the legislative reforms that have taken place in Armenia and attached importance to the process of law enforcement.

"The Committee also attached importance to law enforcement taking into consideration that the law has not been executed yet. Although it is in effect, law enforcement will be the focus of the Monitoring Committee," said David Harutyunyan.

He also informed that in the days leading up to the April session of the Assembly there will be certain outcome to register as a result of reforms made in Articles 225 and 300 of the RA Criminal Code, which will serve as a condition for the Monitoring Committee to touch upon the issue of Armenia.

The Monitoring Committee also discussed the process of reforms connected with electronic media in Armenia.

The Committee also discussed the issue concerning the "A1+" TV. With regards to that, David Harutyunyan mentioned that certain legislative reforms are still in progress. He underscored the proposals related to formation of a regulatory body, but the bills on the violated right of the "A1+" have nothing to do with it, especially the restoration of rights of "A1+", which is also the basis of the verdict reached by the European Court.

The upcoming elections for mayor and city council were also on the agenda. According to David Harutyunyan, the PACE Monitoring Committee praised the fact that there is political pluralism, taking into account the candidates and the fact that the coalition political parties have made the decision to participate in the elections with separate lists.

The issue of Armenia will be discussed once again at the end of April during the plenary session of the PACE in Strasbourg.
