Serzh Sargsyan presented today the newly appointed Mayor of Yerevan Gagik Beglaryan to the administrative members of the city council and districts.

According to Serzh Sargsyan, Yervand Zakharyan has done a lot for residents of Yerevan for the past six years and, as he said, "Yerevan looks nothing like it did in 2003."

Serzh Sargsyan thanked the outgoing mayor and noted that he will still have a chance to work in other fields.

According to Sargsyan, the newly appointed mayor Gagik Beglaryan will be able to add reforms to the city council and bring his experience as Kentron district head to serve the common goals. The president expressed confidence that Beglaryan will be able to add positive elements without decreasing the role of city council.

"We must work harder than we used to work and must be able to make our legislation correspond to modern-day standards," said Sargsyan.

Serzh Sargsyan said that he agrees with the decision approved a couple of years ago to turn Yerevan into one district.

Former mayor Yervand Zakharyan expressed gratitude for the collaboration and the ongoing attention of the authorities toward the issues facing Yerevan.

Incoming mayor Gagik Beglaryan assured that he will do everything possible to solve the issues facing Yerevan and residents of the city.
