President of Lebanon Michel Sleiman received RA Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandyan who is on a regional visit to the Middle East.

Welcoming the Armenian Minister, the Lebanese president said that the people of Lebanon express a special compassion towards the Armenian people. President Sleiman applauded the warm relations noting that they are due to the great contribution made by the Armenian community of Lebanon.

Sleiman asked the Minister to transmit his greetings and warm wishes to Serzh Sargsyan and Edward Nalbandyan transmitted the address of Serzh Sargsyan and the invitation to visit Armenia. He noted that Armenia praises the warm and mutually beneficial relations with Lebanon and underscored that Lebanon is the country in the Arabic world with which Armenia has a Treaty of Amisty.

During the meeting president Sleiman and minister Nalbandyan exchanged views on perspectives for development of bilateral ties, discussed the latest developments in the Middle East and the South Caucasus and possibilities for resolving existing conflicts, as well as the steps being taken toward strengthening security and stability in Lebanon.

During his visit to Beirut Nalbandyan met with Lebanese parliament speaker Nabi Berri and the sides discussed courses for development of inter-parliamentary relations.

The Armenian minister also met with Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Siniora. The Lebanese prime minister praised the friendly ties between both countries and said that the Armenian community of Lebanon plays a special role in the development of mutually beneficial cooperation between Armenia and Lebanon.

On the agenda were steps to be taken for further development of trade between both countries. The interlocutors expressed satisfaction with the legal-judicial sphere and noted that it broadens opportunities for further cooperation.
