SYUNIK MARZ LACKS TECHNIQUES

Regions

Over 6800-hectare spring sowing is foreseen in Syunik marz this year. The arable lands of the marz enlarge every year. Agronomists explain the expansion by the rise in price of wheat and barley.

Kajik Khachatrian, Head of the Agriculture and Environment Protection Department of the Marzpetaran, says they have 700-ton seed corns.

The marz lacks seeds of potato and wheat. They cannot afford great amounts as a kilo is sold for 180 drams. The marz faces another crucial problem connected with irrigation water. Spring sowing lingers in most villages because of the lack of techniques.
