SARYAN CAME TO REPLACE EMPRESS YEKATERINA
Support A1+!One of the greatest painters of 20th century Martiros Saryan is famous not only as a master of graphics and painting, but also as an original theatre artist who created the first monumental work for the stage curtain of the first state theatre (at present State National Academic Theatre after Gabriel Sundukyan – ed.) in Armenia.
An exhibition has been organized on the occasion of Martiros Saryan’s 125th anniversary, and in the National Gallery of Armenia for the first time original works devoted to theatre art, portraits of actors were exhibited.
In the yard of the National Gallery а bust to Martiros Saryan was set up, which had for a long time been kept in the cellars of the gallery. The bust was made in 60s and now, on the occasion of the jubilee was put up. It was erected on the place of Empress Ekaterina’s bust, which was presented to Russia several years ago.
