CONGRATULATIONS, LIBRARIANS!

Culture

Librarian Day is celebrated today. There were 1082 libraries in Armenia in 2003, 10 of them in districts, 34 are territorial, 134 municipal, 858 rural and 43 are for children. In comparison with 2002 the number of libraries decreased by 22. Mainly village libraries reduce year by year.

”The building for Gegharquniq library is in a sad state. Conditions fall short of today’s standards. Books are mainly presented. We have no reading hall for children”, M. Amirkhanyan, director of Gegharquniq district library says.

”I am very glad that Day of Librarians is celebrated today. But I would like Culture and Youth Minister to pay more attention to us. Number of readers reduces day by day”, librarian Marine Gyundakchyan who works in National Library for 20 years says.

By the way, Culture Minister whose name was among those invited /he had to make a speech/ wasn’t present for the arrangements.

In connection with the holiday Culture and Youth Ministry handed over diplomas to 36 librarians. National Library decorated 4 librarians with “Hakob Meghapart” medals and diplomas.
