BAGRAT ASATRYAN COMMENTING ON SITUATION IN BANK SYSTEM AND FINANCIAL MARKET

Economy

No progress in seen in bank system, Central Bank’s former governor Bagrat Asatryan told our correspondent on Wednesday after a seminar focused on bank system development.

It is remarkable that president Kocharyan sacked Bagrat Asatryan immediately after taking his office.

There are many problems in bank system waiting for their solution long year, he said.

In his opinion, it means the system hasn’t been developing for the last decade.

Asatryan voiced alarm at national currency deflation finding this phenomenon extraneous to our economy.

“Importers, in particular, oil importers have taken advantage from that by paying little taxes while the state budget sustained losses from many things, including the excise on fuel and cigarettes that makes the bulk of the state budget”, he said.

In his words, ordinary people only lost from that.

Central Bank’s current governor Tigran Sargssyan thinks otherwise. However, Asatryan expressed no view during discussion and asked no question after his successor Tigran Sargssyan completed his report.
