IRAN-ARMENIA GAS PIPELINE CONSTRUCTION TO START SOON

Iran.ru Internet site reports a 42-km section of Iran-Armenia gas pipeline construction is to start soon in Armenian border province of Meghri. Under the agreement signed May13, 2004, in Yerevan, the pipeline section will be constructed at the expense of Iranian side.

The whole 141-km pipeline (41 km throughout Armenia) construction is planned to be completed by the end of 2006.

According to the agreement, 36 billion cubic meters of Iranian gas will be conveyed to Armenia through the pipeline within 20 years. Every year Armenia will receive 1,1 billion cubic meters gas from Iran and give electric power for that.

Investment from Armenian side will make about $90 million and Iran will invest $120 million.
