SERZH SARKISSIAN COVEYS CONDOLENCES

In connection with the decease of Lord Russell Johnston, a former President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Serzh Sarkissian extended condolences to Terry Devis, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, and Luis Maria de Puig, President of the Parliamentary Assembly.

“It was with great sorrow that I learnt about the untimely decease of the former PACE President Russell Johnston. While in office Russell Johnston left an unforgettable impression of a wise political figure and human rights defender. He had his great share in the propagation of the CoE values. He also contributed to the reconciliation of rival peoples. His undying devotion will serve as a stimulus for other political figures undertaking the high mission.”

Please, extend my heartfelt condolences to Johnston’s family,” runs the message.

Russell Johnston died on July 27, 2008.
