SERGE SARGSYAN TO MEET CONDOLEEZZA RICE

The RA Prime Minister Serge Sargsyan and the delegation led by him participated in the annual meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund on 22 October.

Afterwards, Serge Sargsyan met ARF Bureau member Karo Armenian. The parties discussed various issues, including the activities of American-Armenian originations.

The Prime Minister met Ken Wollack, president of the National Democratic Institute. During the meeting the Prime Minister introduced the efforts of the RA authorities aimed at improving RA electoral processes and political field. He also presented the RA Government’s programs related to the economic growth and maintenance of reforms.

The RA Prime Minister met the leader of Senate majority Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Richard Durbin, coordinator of democratic fraction at the United States Capitol on 22 October. During the meeting the parties registered the top level relations between Armenia and America and discussed their further developments. Senator Reid presented Serge Sargsyan the process of discussions on the Armenian Genocide bill at the US Congress and the approach of the US legislative body. The RA Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the US Congress for assisting Armenian since the country’s independence and for paying particular attention to the problems in Armenia. The parties also discussed issues related to regional security.

Serge Sargsyan had an interview with the correspondent of “Associated Press” news agency. He reflected on issues related to Armenia-America cooperation policy, economic and security issues, presented the current process of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement, Armenia’s relations with neighboring countries, talked about the issues on regional security and Armenia’s participation in anti-terrorism coalition.

On 23 October, the last day of Prime Minister’s visit to the States, Serge Sargsyan will meet Condoleezza Rice, the US Secretary of State and U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Economics and Energy Ruben Jeffrey. He will participate in the session of Armenian-American working group and after the reception at the RA Embassy in Washington DC will leave for Paris.
