DAVIS'S STATEMENT CAUSED THE REGRET OF NKR NA DEPUTIES
Support A1+!NKR NA faction «Democracy» has adopted a statement in connection with the December 11 statement of CE Secretary General Terry Davis on the NKR Referendum. Let us remind you that Terry Davis had said, «A lasting solution for Nagorno-Karabakh can only come out of the political process facilitated by the Minsk Group. Any future solution must respect human rights, and if it is submitted to popular consultation, the vote must be free and fair and open to everyone».
According to Mr. Davis, the main responsibility for the settlement is with the political leadership of Armenia and Azerbaijan and especially President Kocharyan and President Aliev. This is one of the accession commitments of both Armenia and Azerbaijan to the Council of Europe.
The statement of the faction «Democracy» says, «The CE Secretary General accepts that every step on the basis of human rights is just, but he sees that chance of Nagorno Karabakh in future only, failing to notice that the 150 000 citizens of the country which has existed for 15 years and has seen wars and ups and downs, cannot leave the creation of ways of civic control of their country to indefinite future.
Unfortunately, Mr. Davis wants to push NKR towards chaos which not only contradicts the CE system of values but can cause disbalance in the region. We want to believe that Mr. Davis has not taken up that mission. This announcement cannot but cause the regret of the NKR people and its authorities».
