EVERYTHING DEPENDS ON THE QUALITY OF ELECTIONS
Support A1+!The PACE Monitoring Committee started its work in the National Assembly Golden hall. The session was closed. The representatives of Turkey and Azerbaijan did not participate in it.
Greeting those present, NA Speaker Tigran Torosyan mentioned taht the organization of the session in Armenia is symbolic as the September of the current year marked both the 15th anniversary of the independence of Armenia and the 5th anniversary of its membership in the CoE.
Mentioning that the RA Parliamentary elections are to take place in seven months, Mr. Torosyan voiced hope that the organization of the session of the Monitoring Committee in Armenia will support the efforts to hold the elections up to democratic standards.
Referring to the reforms in Armenia after the Constitutional amendments, Mr. Torosyan mentioned the elimination of administrative imprisonment, the election of Ombudsman by the National Assembly, and the enlargement of the circle of people who have the right to apply to the Constitutional Court.
The NA Speaker also mentioned that there is much to do for the coming year as the Judicial code and the Law on Yerevan must be adopted. But on the other hand next year Armenia will almost have fulfilled his commitments and will conclude the phase of monitoring. Nevertheless, the quality of the coming Parliamentary elections is extremely important for this purpose.
