RULES OF COMBAT ACCORDING TO RED CROSS
Support A1+!A four-day training course on International Humanitarian Law (IHL) has started today in the Vazgen Sarkissyan Military Institute of the Ministry of Defense. The course is designed for future IHL instructors and organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Ministry of Defense of Armenia.
Gia Toradze, ICRC’s Armed and Security Forces Expert for the South Caucasus leads the course, which will focus on the effective use of the manuals "IHL for Commanders" and "IHL for Instructors". The topics will cover conduct of operations, command responsibilities and proper behaviour in combat as stipulated by IHL. In addition, the mandate and activities of the ICRC will be presented.
The ICRC stands ready to support the Armenian military authorities in integrating IHL into the teaching and combat training programs of the Armenian Armed Forces.
A similar training was organised in December 2004. Through such courses, the ICRC seeks to ensure that officers of the Armenian Armed Forces know and respect the rules and principles of IHL.
