RA OMBUDSMAN VS. US STATE DEPARTMENT
Support A1+!Today the administration of the Armenian Human Rights Defender issued the following release: « The other day the US State Department published its annual report on human rights, which also records of the situation in Armenia and partly of the activities of the Armenian Ombudsman during last year.
With a reference to a report prepared within the UNDP in December the State Department report says that «the Ombudsman’s administration is disorganized and is obviously dependent on the government. The Ombudsman admitted that the recommendations will contribute to the further organization of the administration activities.»
«However the Ombudsman's administration has no idea of the UNDP above mentioned report, moreover the representatives of the UNDP Yerevan Office states that such a report never existed. Consequently we cannot understand how the matter can concern «internal disorganization» or «dependence on the government» and moreover «the agreement of the Ombudsman with such as estimation». We hope to receive explanation from the US Embassy in Armenia on this issue», the release resumes.
