“TURKEY MUST PERFORM ITS OBLIGATIONS”: ARMENIAN FOREIGN MINISTRY THINKS
Support A1+!”Armenia greets December 15 decision of European Parliament, which calls upon European Commission and EU Council to demand the Turkish Authorities to recognize Armenian Genocide as a historical fact and to immediately open the frontier with Armenia”, the statement released by Armenian Foreign Ministry says.
”We have announced for many times that Turkey’s membership to European Union can be profitable for Armenia and have a positive influence on the region, if Turkey meets all the criteria. In this aspect Armenia drew the attention of EU states to the facts that Turkey keeps the boundary of Armenia closed one-sidedly, criminalizes the term “genocide”, and sets unacceptable pre-conditions to settle the relations with Armenia.
In fact, the decision of European Parliament shows that the European society completely understands and shares concern of Armenia regarding the present inadmissible state of Armenian-Turkish relations. Uncertainty of the situation is fraught with danger for both Southern Caucasus development and European trends.
So, we would like the call of European Parliament to be treated seriously and with responsibility in EU Summit. We are sure if Turkey follows the calls of the European society, it will be much easier to overcome all the obstacles and to provide lasting stability and development for our region. It will also be one of the real and potent claims, with which Turkey will enter European Union with a light heart”.
