ARMENIAN, GEORGIAN OMBUDSMEN SPEAKING AT JOINT NEWS CONFERENCE

Ombudsman post was instituted in Georgia two months ago. Georgian parliament nominated the president supporter Sozar Subari to the post.

On Monday, he arrived in Yerevan to study his Armenian counterpart experience.

Armenian ombudsman Larissa Alaverdyan and the Georgian guest gave a joint news conference on Monday.

Answering a question about recent closure of Russian-Georgian border by Russia, as a result of which hundreds of Armenian citizens remained on the road without food and drink.

“I’d do what I’ve done when Verkhny Lars closed. I would resort to more drastic steps. But, I think, the country authorities has more influence to prevent violation of their citizens’ rights. I think, our countries authorities could have common opinion about the Russian side move. However, Abdranik Margaryan took it for granted saying in an interview that Russia closed the check point because the struggle against terrorism”, Subari said.

He said his nomination to the post of ombudsman had been approved by all political forces of Georgia.

Unlike Subari, Armenian ombudsman Larissa Alaverdyan has been appointed to the post by the president, not by the parliament, a remark was made during the news conference.

Larissa Alaverdyan objected saying the president’s nomination had been supported by 3/5 of the parliament.
