Support A1+!On October 10, a press conference of NKR President Arkady Ghoukassian, with the participation of representatives of some Russian leading mass media, took place in Stepanakert in the frameworks of the Days of the Russian-Armenians' Union in Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh.
The journalists’ questions related to the NKR foreign and home policy, the social-economic and scientific-cultural spheres.
Arkady Ghoukassian highly appreciated the fact of the worldwide Armenian organization's formationexpressing his confidence that its activity would be aimed at the consolidation of the Armenian communities of different countries and joint contribution to the prosperity of the historical motherland.
The NKR President noted that the claim of Nagorno Karabakh’s Armenian population on the reunion with Armenia, raised in 1988, had been aimed at rehabilitation of the historical justice.
“The Artsakh people raised a political issue and, naturally, hoped to achieve a political settlement of the problem. But the approach of the Azerbaijani party turned out to be quite different. Azerbaijan chose the way of armed struggle and unleashed a war, as a result of which both parties incurred losses. Passing through hardships, our people stood numerous tests, as a result of which we managed to establish a peaceful and creative life,” NKR President said, noting that in spite of the armistice, a sniper war still took place on the Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijani armed forces’ contact-line.
“We hope that the new Azerbaijani President will show a sober approach to the case and will not make unserious steps relating, in particular, to the Karabakh settlement”, A. Ghoukassian noted.
