CO-CHAIRMEN OF THE INTERNATIONAL WORKING GROUP ON THE SEARCH OF PRISONERS AND HOSTAGES CONFIRM NO EV

Svetlana Gannushkina, Bernhard Klazen and Paata Zakareishvil - co-chairmen of the International Working Group on the search of missing persons, prisoners of war and hostages – expressed concern over the campaign in the Azerbaijani press against the group’s representative in Nagorno Karabakh, Albert Voskanian.

The co-chairmen noted that the information by the Ministry of National Security of Azerbaijan about crimes committed by Voskanian during 1992-1994 military activities was based on stories by so-called ‘third persons’. There were no direct witnesses of Voskanian’s crimes against Azerbaijanis. ‘Employing Voskanian in 1999, we proceeded from a five-year experience of personal contact with him, as well as the positive opinion of prisoners of war during and after confinement”, the co-chair noted.

According to them, due to Voskanian’s efforts, two Azerbaijani families received the remains of their family members. Mrs. Gannushkina underlined that Voskanian would continue his activity in the working group and they did not intend to dismiss him because of the accusations by Azerbaijani side.

Paata Zakareishvili expressed his opinion that some people tried to conceal the fact of death of the majority of missing persons.
