KARABAKHI STATE COMMISSION ON WAR PRISONERS HOSTAGES AND MISSING PEOPLE REPORTS
Support A1+!On February 18, 2003, an exchange of Karabakh and Azerbaijani prisoners of war took place at the Aghdam section of the contact line of the Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijani armed forces.
The Azerbaijani authorities handed over Smbat Poghossian, a soldier of the Nagorno-Karabakhi Defense Army. He had gone missing and been discovered as a result of searches conducted several days ago on the other side of the border.
In return, the NKR authorities handed over to Azeri Hamid Alekperov, a soldier captured on February 13 while attempting to cross the NKR defence line.
The OSCE and International Committee of Red Cross missions in NKR had been informed about the fact of Hamid Alekperov’s detention. At the request of the ICRC, its representatives were granted access to visit the Azeri prisoner of war.
