MEETING AT THE NKR PRESIDENT

On January 28, President of the Nagorno Karabagh Republic Arkady Ghoukassian received the head of the Stepanakert Office of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Christopher Mehley, in connection with his authority’s expiry in Nagorno Karabagh.

During the meeting, Christopher Mehley introduced the new head of the organization’s Office, Charlotte Hartford, to the NKR President.

Expressing his gratitude to the Republic’s leadership for its comprehensive support of the ICRC activity in Nagorno Karabagh, Mr. Mehley noted that he was satisfied with the level of cooperation between his Mission and various Ministries and Departments of Nagorno Karabagh, in particular, on the issues of the search of missing people and access of the ICRC representatives to the detainees and prisoners of war in case of their availability in the NKR territory.

According to the ICRC representative, the works on the restoration of 23 medical institutions in the Hadrut region have been accomplished, and provision of 66 aid stations in different regions of the Republic with corresponding medicines and equipment is in progress, via the Mission’s assistance.

Mr. Mehley also informed on the Mission’s intention to start the realization of a project on acquainting the population with the international humanitarian law .

In his turn, the NKR President expressed the readiness of the Republic’s leadership to assist the ICRC Karabagh Office in the future as well.
