MEETING AT THE NKR MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS
Support A1+!On January 24, NKR Foreign Minister Ashot Ghoulian received leader of Stepanakert office of International Committee of the Red Cross Christopher Mehley in connection with his authorities’ termination in Nagorno Karabakh. Christopher Mehley introduced the office’s new leader Charlotte Hartford to the head of the NKR Foreign Office.
During the meeting Mr. Mehley thanked the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their active assistance to the ICRC mission in Nagorno Karabakh.
He noted that the realization of humanitarian programs in different spheres, in particular, in healthcare, informing the population on mine danger, propaganda of the knowledge on right of war, assistance to children, as well as visits to the places of detention would be also continued in 2003.
Ashot Ghoulian in his turn emphasized that the ICRC’s ten-year mission in Nagorno Karabakh was highly appreciated both by the NKR authorities and the people. The Minister noted that the organization’s activity was enlarging by each year and became more efficient.
The head of the NKR Foreign Office introduced in general the process of the Karabakh settlement thus underlining the necessity of attaching Karabakh to the negotiations. The Minister also emphasized that the Nagorno Karabakh Republic’s non-recognition put serious obstacles in the development of the Republic’s non-governmental sector and full solution of the social problems of the population.
Ashot Ghoulian assured the new leadership of the ICRC Stepanakert office of all the possible assistance by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
