Official

On January 22 Armenian Parliament speaker Armen Khachatryan received the members of OSCE Observers’ Mission, headed by Peter Iker.

Mr Khachatryan expressed hope that they will make their contribution to democracy development in Armenia. It was stated that the coming elections will increase reputation of Armenia as a country which takes resolute steps on its way of democracy and is interested in free, just and transparent elections .

As the head of the Legislative Power, Khachatryan assured that under Electoral Legislation the utmost was done to prevent the possible election irregularities.

Mr Iker informed that beforehand they had been given a chance to look through Armenian Electoral Legislation and they think it to have enough potentialities to carry out democratic elections.

The observers have already been to CEC. They aim to suggest CEC to solve the problem over making public the results of any polling district before getting to CEC in order that voters are able to make sure the votes are counted properly and the exact results are made public in CEC.

Mass Media were said to be paid special attention to, aiming to find out if all the candidates are introduced equally and whether voters possess enough information about the candidates.

Mr Iker and observers’ group members aim to meet the candidates for presidency and to become aware of their standpoints regarding development of the country as one must know the problems and perspectives of a country to understand what the elections there will be really like .
