UKRAINIAN EMBASSY STATEMENT

Regarging to disseminated by the media information that 4 Armenians were killed and 4 injured in shooting, the Embassy presents the report issued by Ukrainian Independend News Agency.

The shooting caused by the conflict between two businessmen trying to get an order on asphaltind roads in Ukrainian town of Znamenka. One of them won competition and this aroused discontent of his rival. Both contenders with their supporters arrived in a nearby in several cars village on July 8. A quarrel broke out at 23:00. Then shooting started. Police arrested two shooting participants. The businessmen who responsible for quarrel beginning are wanted and still at large. 8 were rushed to hospitals. They were Armenians living in Ukraine. Four of them died in hospital.

In this regard the Ukrainian Embassy urges Armenian media to refrain from dissemination of unconfirmed information that can affect traditional friendly relationship between Armenian and Ukrainian people.

A1+ TV Company correspondent phoned to the Ukrainian Embassy in Yerevan to clarify the nationality of the businessmen, but the embassy officers added nothing to already known information but supposition that both businessmen are Armenians, as victims are exclusively Armenians. We were also informed that three victims’ bodies were sent to Artashat today. The call to Armenian Embassy in Kiev has also shed no light on the incident as the embassy got the information from the press.
