Today the Armenian Parliament referred to the recent Helsinki statement adopted by the Foreign Ministers of OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair Countries and Armenian-Turkish relations.
Secretary of the Heritage Party Stepan Safaryan noted that the ongoing processes show that the European community attaches great importance to the resolution of the Karabakh conflict. “It is time we made concrete decisions,” said Mr. Safaryan. The Heritage Secretary is concerned that Karabakh is not mentioned as a conflicting side in the Helsinki statement.
Republican MP Edward Sharmazanov says the statement envisages that the conflict should be settled on the basis of the Moscow principles excluding a military intervention.
“Although the parties haven’t reached an agreement on the main principles, the Armenian side urges that the conflict be settled within the framework of the Minsk group,” he said.
Sharmazanov ensures that the Armenian side has always pursued a policy guided by the interests of the state and nation. The Armenian side excludes the change of the Minsk group in the conflict settlement.
“Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan has always said that the Armenian side will never agree to unilateral concessions. Compromises should stem from the interest of Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh. And let us remind our Azeri partners that Armenia won the war. It is not accidental that we speak relying on these three preconditions,” he said.
Bargavach Hayastan member Avet Adonts considers the Helsinki statement as positive. He says the establishment of the Armenian-Turkish diplomatic relations will enhance to the Karabakh conflict resolution.
“Serzh Sargsyan’s proposal to establish diplomatic ties between Turkey and Armenia is left unaddressed,” said ARF Dashnaktsutyun member Hrayr Karapetyan. Turkey continues to deny the Armenian Genocide and still keeps Armenia in an economic blockade.
Hrayr Karapetyan reminded that the ARF Dashnaktsutyun endorses the principles proposed by Serzh Sargsyan, NKR cannot be Azerbaijan’s part. Nagorno Karabakh must get international guarantees for security and have a land border with Armenia.
