CONCESSIONS MEANS DEFEAT
Support A1+!“We continue to lose as long as they keep pushing Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh to concession,” declared today former Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Foreign Minister Arman Melikyan. Melikyan believes that compromises turn into concessions when the co-chairmen persuade the Armenian side to make concessions and talk about Armenians starting the war, Armenians stay silent and when they only talk about Azeri refugees and deportees.
According to Melikyan, the Armenian side must evade making references to referendums when negotiating or bringing up legal substantiations, such as the referendum of 1989 where there is nothing said about the liberated lands. Jirair Sefilyan’s “Miatsum” movement, according to Arman Melikyan, presupposes the status of 1988.
Arman Melikyan believes that it is necessary to accept the current de facto status and start negotiations from there. There can be no discussion on unilateral concessions and if the issue of liberated lands is discussed, the Armenian lands of Shahumyan, Getashen and the rest of the lands currently under Azeri control must be mentioned.
According to Arman Melikyan, Karabakh must negotiate instead of Armenia. The main flaw of the Meindorf treaty was that it lacked the signature of Nagorno-Karabakh. The Azeri propaganda pinpointed that part of the treaty and this was their ticket with which, according to Azeri presses, the Armenian side has accepted that Armenia is the conflicting side and not Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.
“But I believe that there will not be any fatal document in the near future. There will be attempts to sign interim documents. I am certain that there is human potential that will be able to go against any anti-Armenian decision,” says former Nagorno-Karabakh Foreign Minister.
As far as the possible referendum on Karabakh and the passing of the changes in the Karabakh-based referendum are concerned, Arman Melikyan said:
“In reality, since electoral systems are not trustworthy and falsifications play a serious role, I consider these changes serious. As long as this situation continues, any law may be violated and any falsified result may be officially recognized.”
