"NIKOYAN PERFORMS THE FUNCTIONS OF AGHVAN HOVSEPYAN"

Politics

Though I am not a specialist of Armenian, my knowledge of the language allows me to state that the Armenian used in deciphered telephone talks of Alexandre Arzumanyan and Levon Ter-Petrosyan is much purer and cleaner than the one used in official speeches of Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan,” political prisoner Alexandre Arzumanyan’s wife, Melissa Brown, said to A1+.

“At first when I heard the talks I was horrified at the idea that the authorities are plotting something awful. Then I felt abhorrence at their steps. Now I am glad that everyone is convinced that the talks convey no criminal calls for violence my husband is charged with. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be kept in prison for nine years without a sentence.

If the NA ad hoc Commission is really interested in the telephone talks they had better show the full film without frame montage. The Commission simply acts under the authorities' order and has become a tool in their hands. The Chairman of the Commission Samvel Nikoyan performs the functions of Prosecutor General Aghvan Hovsepyan,” said Mrs. Brown.

She says it is not strange that the deciphered talks was med public during the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammarberg’s visit to Armenia.

“The authorities expected an adverse reaction but Hammarberg clearly said that decoding of telephone talks is inadmissible, moreover, it is a rough breach of human rights. I wouldn’t like our telephone talks to be deciphered as they are our private matters. The authorities have overstepped all limits of public morals,” she added.

Mrs. Brown reminded that First Instance Court of Kentron and Nork-Marash communities at the head of Judge Jora Vardanyan had permitted to decipher her husband's telephone talks long before the outcome of the February 19 Presidential election.

“They had already launched a political persecution against the opposition representatives though it wasn't still known which of the candidates would win the election.

My husband is innocent. The same is true with the other political prisoners. They are imprisoned as the acting regime fears from democracy and freedom of expression. The families of the political prisoners continue their struggle even in these abject conditions.”

Note that Mrs. Brown is not going to leave Armenia though she has a US citizenship.

“My husband is Armenian. My son is also Armenian. Armenia is their homeland and is very dear to me. I have been delivering lectures in Armenia for then years. I love this country and am not going to leave it.”
