PSYCHO SENTENCED TO SEVEN YEARS

Politics

The court reached another verdict for the March 1 case. This time the court sentenced schizophrenic Gabriel Gabrielyan, who is the storage owner of the “Malatia” produce market and relative of NA Deputy Hakob Hakobyan.

Judge of Yerevan Criminal Court Eva Darbinyan declared him guilty for participating in the mayhem based on the 1st and 2nd parts of article 225 of the RA Criminal Code.

This was an unlawful verdict, which violated all principles of legal proceedings. The preliminary investigation was subjective and the trials were even more subjective,” told “A1+” Gabriel Gabrielyan’s attorney Vahagn Manukyan who considered the verdict as truly false. Manukyan says that he wasn’t allowed to be by his client when he was arrested.

“The fact that neither I nor my client was acquainted with the materials and that our petitions weren’t discussed during the preliminary investigation goes to show that there has been a serious violation,” said Manukyan.

There is another fact that the court did not take into account.

According to the attorney, Gabriel Gabrielyan was released from military service in 1980 due to epilepsy and besides that, he was registered as a schizophrenic in the psychological dispensaries of Nork.

“He has always been suffering from schizophrenia, but now, thirty years later, for some reason, the medical commission finds him guilty. It turns out that the person who had been innocent for 30 years turned guilty.”

The judge also didn’t take into account the fact that Gabriel Gabrielyan has three children.

“The court didn’t take anything into account. It only mentioned that on March 1 Gabrielyan was at Freedom Square, as well as the area near city council,” complained Vahagn Manukyan.

According to some articles, Gabrielyan was sentenced to jail after he refused to testify against NA Deputy Hakob Hakobyan for the separate March 1 case. He was arrested and brought to the Malatia police division on April 15-a month and a half after the events of March 1-and the police illegally kept him there without any charges.

Vahagn Manukyan is getting ready to appeal the verdict today at the Appeals Court.
