YES, MONEY, BUT WHAT ABOUT AIRTIME?

Politics

The government finally decided to fulfill the demand of the European Court for Human Rights, at least by the compensation part.

The government conceded the equivalent of 30,000 euros in drams to the RA Ministry of Justice with the purpose of fulfilling the requirements of the verdict reached on June 17, 2008 by the European Court for Human Rights on appeal 32283/04 of Armenia against “Meltex” INC and Mesrop Movsesyan.

The European Court considered that the 10th article of the Convention (freedom of speech) was violated with the canceling of airtime for “A1+”. The court decided that the Armenian government must pay 30,000 euros to “Meltex”, of which 10,000 euros must be transferred to the English businessmen. The deadline for transferring the money is December 17 of this year.

According to attorneys of “A1+”, the fulfillment of the verdict of the European Court is not just the compensation. The RA Government must also take steps to restitute the violated rights of the company.
