WILL FACT-FINDING GROUP WORK FOR PUBLIC?

Politics

“The Heritage Party is still discussing its involvement in the fact-finding group of experts to look into the March 1 occurrences. Our participation is also being considered by the Armenian National Congress,” Heritage member Armen Martirosyan said to A1+. Note that the Heritage was the first to come up with the idea of establishing a fact-finding mission.

“We think that the NA ad hoc Committee should have subcommittees to study concrete issues. No one can force us to get engaged in the group. It is upon the Heritage to decide,” said Armen Martirosyan.

Asked whether they have any guarantees that the fact-finding group will work more efficiently that the NA ad hoc Committee studying the March 1 events, Armen Martirosyan said: “We were to start from some point to enhance the committee’s further activity. The equilibrium of the fact-finding group can serve as such. On the other hand, the authorities should demonstrate political will power and contribute to the work. We must also get acquainted with the problems the fact-finding group faces today to be able to make a final decision.”

The mission of the fact-finding group, according to Mr. Martirosyan, is to compile and submit neutral facts on the March 1 occurrences although the Heritage has some concerns about the NA ad hoc Committee. “I am really concerned about their interpretation of the opposition's footage, especially when they say the organs seen in the footage belong to animals. We knew that the Committee wouldn't act within its liabilities. The realms of the fact-finding group are narrower and the group can perfectly fulfill its functions. Anyway, I think it is too early to assess the group.”

“If the Heritage Party is involved in the fact-finding group, it will work for the society. The authorities are not eternal. The society is equally concerned about the March 1 events and October 27 terrorist act.”

The Heritage is to publicise its decision by November 3. Note, that under an October 23 decree of the RoA President two members of the fact-finding group of experts are to be nominated by the ruling coalition, one-by the “Heritage” faction, one – by the Armenian National Congress ruled by Levon Ter-Petrosyan and one by the Ombudsman's Office.
