“MONEY IS NOT DOMINANT IN KENTRON ”

Politics

Ararat Zurabian, Chairman of the HHSh’s political board and ex district head of Kentron commune, runs in the local elections due on September 28.

“Kentron is Armenia's mini model, and I find it important to run in local elections,” Ararat Zurabian said today in the “Hayatsk” club.

“Surely, we do not think Serzh Sarkissian won the presidential election of February 19 but one thing is apparent-Sarkissian holds the post of the country’s president. We do not admit elections to self-government bodies or to City Mayor.

“But according to our verified sources the authorities intend to cancel the election to City Mayor by the autumn of 2009. This is their wily tactics,” he said.

Note, HHSh member David Arakelian also stands for Kentron’s district head.

Zurabian says the candidates are free to withdraw their candidacy by September 18. I think one of us will leave the race by then. “Most probably it won’t be me.”

Ararat Zurabian thinks his chances to victory are great. “Kentron is Yerevan’s heart. Unlike the suburbs finances do not dominate in this district. We have reliable levers to run in the election. We have a mighty team capable of winning any election.”

Asked how he would stand the votes cast in his favour, the HHSh Chairman said: “No one has ever addressed such a question to a government representative which already evidences to the fact that the authorities rig all elections. We are all well aware of it. Anyway, I shall try my best to gain enough votes and win the election.”
