“SERZH SARKISSIAN SHOULD STAND TRIAL”
Support A1+!Armenia’s political prisoners issued a statement today which runs,
Armenia’s political prisoners welcome their compatriots’ determination and struggle for the country’s future welfare. They are confident that the struggle has entered a final phase.
The criminal-oligarchic regime is in great agony and has already unmasked its real face to the whole world. Within four weeks the Prosecutor’s Office couldn’t bring grounded charges against the suspects of the March 1 events. The authorities’ statements proved to be false and fictitious.
Everybody soon realised that the March 1 slaughter followed by the arrest of numerous activists of the Popular Movement and the false charges were simply attempts to intimidate people and conceal the grave crime committed by the Armenian leadership. We announce that heinous crime-power usurpation-was committed on March 1 by Robert Kocharian and Serzh Sarkissian. As a result, Saekissian was declared illegitimate president.
Just from the very beginning we foresaw the secret plans of the acting regime. They longed for power. The oligarchic government had planned to restore to mass violence and secure Serzh Sarkissian’s victory during the Presidential election of February 18, 2008. Their further steps, incitement of the March 1 unrest, imposition of a state of emergency, anti-constitutional amendments to the Law on “Assemblies, Marches and Meetings,” large-scale arrests were based on that aspiration.
Meantime, Armenian TV channels were actively engaged in broadcasting disinformation around the clock as if attempts were made to ruin the Armenian statehood and the authorities took efforts to avert it. It took us long to divulge the reality to the international community. We think it is high time we named things by their proper names.
All lawbreakers, instigators of “violence” and perpetrator of the March 1 unrest should be brought to justice. Robert Kocharian and Serzh Sarkissian should be tried as perpetrators of crime against humanity. Moreover, the Special Investigation Body, the National Assembly and the Prosecutor's Office, the co-authors of anti-constitutional acts, should be brought to trial.
We are convinced that the Armenians will gain freedom and justice. We shall willingly vacate the cells for real criminals. Let no Armenian doubt that it is impossible to usurp power by waging a war against peaceful people.
We shall win.
