ZHARANGUTIUN SUPPORTS ANC BUT…
Support A1+!The Zharangutiun (Heritage) Party welcomes the Armenian National Congress (ANC) but it doesn’t hurry to join it. The decision was made after a long and heated discussion.
“We shall not join ANC unless we get acquainted with the ANC policy and the terms of partnership,” Chairwoman of the Zharangutiun’s Political Board, Anahit Bakhshian said today.
“We have always supported the Popular Movement which emerged before the Presidential election and had its great share in the establishment of civil society in Armenia. Thanks to the assiduous work carried out by the Popular Movement the authorities today reckon with people and take efforts to restore public confidence. Though the authorities’ words and steps are mostly imitative the Popular Movement was able to restrain the authorities’ illegal actions. The Zharangutiun called on people to vote for Levon Ter-Petrossian before the election. We voice full support to the Popular Movement,” added Mrs. Bakhshinian.
Note, the ANC has set demands to be met by the authorities. Mrs. Bakhshinian says that the Zharangutiun fully endorses the three demands made by the ANC- immediate revelation of the March 1 tragic events, restoration of freedom of press and urgent release of the political prisoners.
In reply to A1+ why the Zharangutiun doesn’t join the ANC if it agrees to the demands, Mrs. Bakhshian said: “We shall voice our stance after we get acquainted with their programme and statute”
