Dear compatriots,
It is the last time I have addressed you as President of Armenia and great is my desire to report on the path we have covered.
However, I am not going to enumerate our achievements of the past ten years. The country’s progress towards modernization is obvious; our life conditions have considerably improved. Few are the countries whose rates of growth can be compared to those of Armenia.
Meanwhile, we have much to accomplish. Our life quality is far not pleasing. But neither am I going to dwell on our future problems. It is the occupation of the coming president and his administration.
These 10 years passed instantly. The job of a president is hard and responsible but it is also interesting and creative.
I thank the Armenian people for their confidence that kept me responsible for this country for ten years. I thank all my colleagues that helped me in accomplishing various tasks. I thank every citizen that could have even a minute input in the country’s development. I thank the Armenian Diaspora for supporting all my initiatives.
I apologize to those whose life has not improved; I apologize to those whose expectations have not been properly met.
Retiring every person asks himself if nothing more could be done. It might have been possible but I have done my best. I have worked in a rigid schedule and even ahead of it. At least I have carried out all my promises.
I believe in Armenia’s future, in our people’s strength. I believe in the ability of the president elect to effectively govern the country. We shall have further accomplishments with the public more optimistic and enthusiastic, more trusting and tolerant.
We have been saying over and over again that our country is not rich in natural resources and our people is our greatest wealth.
Dear compatriots, it was only thanks to you that we were able to rise and make our country more prosperous. It is you that expand our economy and it is only thanks to you that our country will be able to strive for new goals and achievements. I believe in stable, secure and prosperous Armenia; I believe in you.
Thank you.
