CEC REGISTERS ALL CANDIDATES
Support A1+!Today the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) registered all the nine candidates running in the presidential elections of February 19, 2008.
The presidential contenders are: leader of the “Orinats Yerkir” Party Arthur Baghdasarian, leader of the “National Unity” Party Artashes Geghamian, leader of the “People’s Party” Tigran Karapetian, Leader of the “National Democratic Union” Vazgen Manukian, former Adviser to the President of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic Arman Melikian, member of “ARF Dashnaktsutiun” Bureau and Vice-Speaker of the National Assembly Vahan Hovhannissian, leader of the “Republican Party of Armenia,” Prime Minister Serzh Sarkissian, first President of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrossian, leader of the “National Consent” Party Aram Harutiunian.
The pre-election campaign will last from January 21 to February 17, 2008.
CEC Chairman Garegin Azarian reminded that the elections would be held in 32 days and asked the representatives to submit the candidates’ resumes and photos.
Reference was made to the deployment of election observation missions, CEC expenses and Armenia’s Electoral Code.
The state budget will earmark 769 855 259 drams to the CEC. Part of the money will be spent on preparatory work.
In reply to journalists’ question whether the CEC Chairman is aware of the candidates’ programmes, the latter said reluctantly, “It is beyond the jurisdiction of the Central Electoral Commission.”
