The Edinaya Rossia (United Russia) Party headed by President Vladimir Putin won an overwhelming majority of seats (315 seats out of 450) at the December 2 parliamentary elections.

According to preliminary data, the party got 36 million (63, 3%) votes cast. Three more parties were elected to the State Duma: the Communist Party (11, 7%), the Liberal-Democratic Party (8, 5%) and the Spravedlivaya Rossia (Fair Russia) Party (8%).

The other 7 parties were unable to pass the 7-percent threshold representation in the 450-seat Duma.
