BARBARISMS IN OLD JUGA
Support A1+!The Armenian Embassy to Tehran received an alarming call from the Iranian diocese of the Armenian Church. According to them, a number of Azeri soldiers invaded the cemetery of Old Juga near the banks of the river Arax and started to break with heavy hammers the Armenian khachkars which are left after similar vandalisms by the Azeris in 2002.
The Embassy gets information about the continuous breaking of the Armenian khachkars in Armenian Old Juga cemeteries and other monuments in Nakhijevan. All the monuments which form part of the Armenian history, as well as of the world cultural heritage become subject of planned vandalism. The Armenian monuments are broken down and damped into the river Arax.
The participation of the soldiers in the act of vandalisms testifies to the fact that the Azeri authorities carry out the usual act of pervertion of the history trying to eliminate all the traces of Armenians in the territory of Nakhijevan.
In this connection the spiritual leaders of the three Armenian dioceses in Iran have expressed their anger on behalf of all the Armenians and alarmed the world community and the international organizations, in particular the UNESCO to take steps and to prevent Azerbaijan from carrying out the following cultural genocide.
The Armenian Foreign Ministry has also expressed its indignation and deep concern about the issue and calls on Baku and Nahkijevan to stop the acts of vandalism immediately.
We also apply to UNESCO and other international structures to send a group of experts to Nakhijevan to state the fact of vandalisms on the spot and to take adequate steps.
