Politics

“We have had significant progress in the settlement of the Karabakh conflict and we can expect to have achievements in 2006”, with this announcement the RA Foreign Minister disagreed with the NKR President.

After the meeting with the OSCE Minsk group co-chairs Arkadi Ghoukasyan had announced that we are still far away from the settlement of the Karabakh conflict. Vardan Oskanyan expressed his disagreement indirectly. According to him, Arkadi Ghoukasyan has told him this morning that the press did not comment his announcement in a right way. According to the Foreign Minister, Arkadi Ghoukasyan has said, “Judging from the announcements of the Azeri side, we can conclude that we are far away from the settlement of the conflict”.

By the way, the reason for the meeting today was not the above mentioned announcement, although it took place by the order of the RA President. Vardan Oskanyan claimed that he meets the NKR President to tell him about the details of the RA President’s meeting with the OSCE Minsk group co-heads.

According to the Foreign Minister, Arkadi Ghoukasyan will fully aware of the course of negotiations.

“At present there is no pack of offers. Today the discussions are held about the main principles of settling the issue, as well as about additional elements”, the Foreign Minister said referring to the visit of the OSCE Minsk group co-chairs.

According to him, the place and date of the coming meeting of the Armenian and Azeri Presidents is not yet clear. Possibly it will take place at the beginning of the coming year.
