Politics

Today at 11 a.m. a march organized by National League for Independence of Armenia had to start from the monument to Saryan and proceed to the National Assembly and the President’s residence. The non-registered organization warned the city administration about the action.

However the next day the League members received a notification barring the march.

Deputy chief of the municipal police department S. Afyan informed that conduction of rallies or marches near the monument is prohibited.

As League member, political scientist Stepan Sagaryan said they intended to hold a peaceful rally and hand their protest statements referring to the privatization of power grids and Property for Debt agreement to the NA deputies and President.

To note the law “On rallies, marches and demonstrations” differentiates mass and not mass events. The events with the participation of small number of people like today’s one had to be do not need confirmation or prohibition by the city authorities.
