POLITICIANS SPECULATING ABOUT QUALIFICATIONS
Support A1+!The President should be a man of state and member of a party, which he can form himself, chairman of National Self-Determination Union Paruyr Hayrikyan told our correspondent.
«Robert Kocharyan is not a man of state, neither is Putin», Mr. Hayrikyan considers. In his opinion, before becoming the President the politician should pass a certain way. «It cannot be fixed in the Constitution. He should just pass this way and prove his devotion. Paruyr Hayrikyan states that the presidential contender should have political affiliation and citizenship. The lower age barrier should be 25, the upper can be unlimited. Let the voters decide. There are people who being 80 are able to think more sober than people aged 50.
Deputy Chairman of the Armenian National Movement Aram Manukyan thinks that the limitations provided by the acting Constitution are enough. «Age, citizenship, registration are enough. If the constitutional norms are violated the document is not to blame”, he says.
Ramkavar Azatakan party leader Harutyun Arakelyan considers that the President should have oratory skills and be no younger that 40-45. He also suggests a rather peculiar qualification for the National Assembly deputies, «The deputy should have juridical and economic education as politics and economy are interrelated. Laws should be written by lawyers and economists. The age qualification should be fixed at 35 for the deputies. Let them live in the country and understand what country it is and what kind of laws it needs», he stated.
As against him Paruyr Hayrikyan considers that the educational qualification is unnecessary and that the age of 25 is an appropriate age for becoming a deputy. «The most important thing is that the deputy should be elected for 2-year term to avoid the problem of recall and should have distinct political affiliation”, Mr. Hayrikyan resumed.
