"David of Sassoun" Symphonic Fantasy to be performed for first time in Armenia

Five concert nights with the participation of world renowned soloists and Armenian State Symphonic Orchestra. Today, at the Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall, the opening ceremony of the Armenia International Music Festival will take place. Artistic director and conductor of the Armenian State Symphonic Orchestra Sergey Smbatyan said this year the festival will not have a competition part. The aim of the festival is to introduce  the best performing artists of our time to Armenian music lovers, in particular with the soprano of the Moscow theater, our compatriot Anna Agatova, Queen Elizabeth's competition's winner Dennis Kozhukhin, world-renowned violinist Nikolay Tsaider, and winner of the Malta International Competition Anna Ulaiva, who, by the way, received 100,000 euros for the first prize. "Each festival has its own peculiarity. In my opinion, the place and atmosphere of the festival are very important," said Denise Kozhukhin, "Yerevan is a city with an interesting and warm atmosphere." The Armenia festival will have over two hundred tourists coming to take part in this special festival. The presented program will include works of both Armenian and Russian and European composers. The concerts will be led by Sergey Smbatyan and Maltese conductor Alan Chirkoff. A surprise is expected: Airat Ichmouratov's "David of Sassoun" Symphonic Fantasy will be performed for the first time in Armenia.
