Yeghnukians set free - Ombudsman's Office

The Office of the Human Rights Defender (Ombudsman) says that three of the activists detained on Tuesday morning have been released. On Tuesday morning, the hotline of the Ombudsman's Office received a call that Hakob, Hripsime and Elmon Yeghnukians, as well as members of Armenian Women's Front civil initiative - Ruzanna Yeghnukian, Aghavni Sahakyan and Geghetsik Tonoyan, were taken to the Kentron Division of the Armenian Police. They were reportedly detained for distributing flyers about Zhirayr Sefilian and Garo Yeghnukian in the presence of participants of the Sixth Armenia-Diaspora Conference in the vicinity of the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concerts Complex. Shortly after receiving the call representatives of the Ombudsman’s Office visited the Kentron police department where they talked to the detainees and asked [the police] to produce legal grounds for their detention. The police officers said they had been detained in connection with reports of alleged bomb threat at Republican Square earlier Tuesday. After talks with the police, Hakob, Hripsime and Elmon Yeghnukians were released.
