Armenia remains one of the most corrupt countries in the world. This means it is difficult to imagine economic development in the country, says economist Bagrat Asatryan. He does not exclude that investments will be made in Armenia, but ‘they will not be enough for our country.’ "An ordinary person cannot make an investment here. Instead of extending its meaningless power, the ruling force [Republican Party of Armenia-HHK] had better take concrete steps to develop the country,” Mr Bagratyan stresses. The elections were rigged, the results show it. “In March, the cash turnover in Armenia increased by 18 billion drams. It makes about 40 million drams which is the sum distributed to people as pre-election bribes,” he continues. In the first four months of 2017, we had an economic growth of 5.7%, which is welcomed by the economist. However, he says that what happened in Armenia in the first months of 2017 tarnishes everything. “What the authorities did was shameful. Serzh Sargsyan, you could simply bang your fist on the table and say that you would like to rule for a third term instead of resorting to such shady steps.” Bagrat Asatryan does not believe Serzh Sargsyan’s statement that the population in Armenia is increasing. “In 2018-2019, we shall face numerous problems thanks to the Republican Party of Armenia. I cannot understand how Serzh Sargsyan can make such loud statements saying that in 2040 we will have 4 million people living in the country. This means that from now on, 50,000 people will be arriving in Armenia, but we witness people leaving the country.” According to him, the authorities are leading Armenia to the Soviet period, where corruption was flourishing, people were indifferent to the fate of the country.
