“Jazz is freedom, pleasure and creativity,” said jazz vocalist and performer Marjorie Barnes. The famous jazz singer will perform in Yerevan on May 24 during a concert dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Ella Fitzgerald. Vahagn Hayrapetyan, in his turn, cited the words of Louis Armstrong who said, "Man, if you have to ask what jazz is, you'll never know.” “Let me add in my turn that jazz is life and sex,” he said. “I did not know anything about your country and I am very impressed now,” said Marjorie Barnes. “I see friendly people and beautiful streets. Music is playing everywhere. You have a fantastic orchestra led by a great conductor. I do hope this will not be my last visit [to Armenia] and during my next visit I shall learn more things about your country and its culture,” she added. Vahagn Hayrapetyan’s St. Petersburg jazz quartet will also perform during the concert. The idea of organizing the concert belongs to Constantine Orbelian, the conductor of the symphonic orchestra of A. Spendiaryan Opera and Ballet National Academic Theatre. Vahagn Hayrapetyan says Constantine Orbelian made their dream a reality and expressed hope that more concerts would be organized in the future.
