Serzh Sargsyan came to a polling station located at School #24 after S. Spandaryan with his wife Rita Sargsyan to fulfill their civil duty by casting votes for one of the three forces running for the Yerevan City Council. What can voters expect from Taron Margaryan if he is re-elected as Mayor of Yerevan? “Yerevan will become a more comfortable place for living,” Serzh Sargsyan said in reply. At the same time, he left the question concerning electoral fraud unanswered. Residents of Yerevan are electing a new city council today, which, in turn, will pick the mayor of Yerevan. In all, there are 10 constituencies and 474 polling stations in the Armenian capital where voting started at 8 a.m. There are 841 973 eligible voters in Yerevan. Yerevan City Council is elected for a 4-year term and has 65 members. Campaigning for the municipal elections started on April 12 and lasted until May 12.     Three candidates are vying to become Mayor of Yerevan. The ruling Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) has nominated the incumbent Mayor Taron Margaryan for re-election. Margaryan’s challengers are Nikol Pashinyan from the opposition Yelk alliance and Zaruhi Postanjyan, the leader of the newly-formed Yerkir Tsirani party.
