Voters in Yerevan are electing a new municipal council on Sunday, which in turn will pick a new mayor. Armenian PM Karen Karapetyan cast his vote at 4/53 Polling Station. He voted for Yerevan’s incumbent Mayor Taron Margaryan who was nominated by the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK). “I see him as a mayor [of Yerevan],” Karen Karapetyan said after casting his ballot in the box. “We have more transparent and fair elections year by year,” Mr Karapetyan said. He added that he had heard about vote buying cases presented by the Yelk alliance. "Are you sure that it was bribe?" “We shall present our conclusions in one material,” the PM said. Campaigning for the municipal elections started on April 12 and lasted until May 12. Three candidates are vying to become Mayor of Yerevan. The ruling Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) has nominated the incumbent Mayor Taron Margaryan for re-election and believes that will retain control over the municipal administration. Margaryan’s challengers are Nikol Pashinyan from the opposition Yelk alliance and Zaruhi Postanjyan, leader of the newly-formed Yerkir Tsirani party.
