Sit-in continues at Liberty Square (video)
A group of citizens have spent the night at Liberty Square in Yerevan, Yesterday, they started an open-end hunger strike, demanding release of Artur Sargsyan (nicknamed “bringer of bread”). In the evening, they will hold a rally and march in support of the jailed man. Gevorg Nikoghosyan, one of the participants of the sit-in, says they aim to eliminate apathy among people. “We call on them to think of their honour and dignity. “The bringer of bread” derived himself of bread and helped people without losing his dignity. We want to awaken the same feelings among indifferent people,” he said. “It was a little cold at night but we were able to tolerate the cold. People were passing by and asking us questions. There were some who decided to join us and stay at the square at night, but then they changed their minds and left the site,” says Robert Grigoryan, 17. He believes that Artur Sargsyan is a prisoner of conscience. Artur Sargsyan drove his car through a police cordon to deliver food to the armed members of the Sasna Dzrer group during their two-week standoff with law enforcement forces. Sargsyan, himself started a hunger strike on Feb. 10, one day after he was again arrested by Armenian law-enforcement authorities, demanding to change his restraint.
