2016 was phase-by-phase, floating year for Turkey, said Karen Hovhannisyan, expert on Turkish-Kurdish conflicts’ issues, “At first Turkish-Kurdish relations were rather tense, but terrorist attacks in the country diverted the attention of Turks.” Turkey’s inner political issues, mass arrests were also important and made the Turkish authorities concentrate on inner political issues.” In spite of numerous active military actions and casualties from two nations, the speaker considers that 2016 is a positive year for Kurds, “This year was rather successful for Kurds in terms of establishing themselves in foreign relations. They were able to show the world how Turkey treats them in reality and I can say they managed to find favor with the USA and Turkey doesn’t like all this.” The speaker also noted that the conflict with Kurds is a big blow to Turkey’s economy, “Turkish crashing economy is the result of that conflict; Kurds live in such territories, where there are large mining centers and Turkey is not able to use them.”
